Pyles, Florence May Patton Mrs, William Pyles Of Elmdale Dies
She lived All Her Life is Clements and Elmdale Vicinities. Services Held Tuesday.
Mrs. William Pyles died in, the St. Mary's Hospital in Emporia last Sunday morning at two o'clock. She had broken her hip and leg when she stumbled and fell in the yard of her home last week. Her daughter, Mrs. Arch King of Wichita, came to care for her but her condition became critical and she was taken to the hospital on Saturday before her death Sunday.
Funeral services were held at the Elmdale Methodist church Tuesday afternoon, July 8, with Rev. V. A. Nichel in charge. Pallbearers were Otto Frey, Paul Wood, LeRoy Giger, Charles Davis, Max Ballew and Harry Starkey. Mrs. Art Drummond, Mr. and Mrs. William Schneider and Mr. Duncan McAlpine sang accompanied by Mrs. Wayne Ward. Interment was in the Elmdale cemetery.
Florence May Patton, daughter of Nelson Monroe and Clara Marie Patton, was born at Clements, Kansas, January 18, 1877, and passed away in Emporia, Kansas, July 7, 1946, at the age of 69 years, 5 months and 20 days.
On May 14, 1895, she was married to William Thomas Pyles at Cottonwood Falls, Kansas, and they made their home in Clements until 1910 when they moved to Elmdale to the farm where she lived the rest of her life. At an early age she joined the Presbyterian church at Clements
On May 14,1945, Mr and Mrs Pyles celebrated their golden wedding
anniversary at their home near Elmdale and a large gathering of friends came to help them with the celebration.
They were the parents of eight children, William Everett. who died in infancy; Leona O. Gardner, who died April 10, 1944; Mildred P. King of Wichita; Evadna Byram of Cedar Point; Cecile F. Clark of Elmdale, Nelson E. Pyles of Hoxie, Thomas J. Pyles of Elmdale; and Velma I. Drummond of Cottonwood Falls, who with her husband survive her. She is also survived by two brothers, C. Ray Patton and Edward M. Patton of Homestead, twelve grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
