Redelfs, L John The funeral for L. John Redelfs, 99, a resident of the Holiday Resort care center and formerly of Americus was Jan. 25, 2002, in the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Allen R. Epp conducted the service. Burial with Masonic services conducted by Americus Masonic Lodge 109, was in Americus Cemetery. Memorials to the Americus United Presbyterian Church, the Americus Township Library or the Americus Fire Department can be sent to the funeral home.
Mr Redelfs, who died Jan. 21,2002, at the care center, was a retired farmer and stockman. L John Redelfs, the son of Lammert J and Emma Gembler Redelfs, was born Oct 23, 1902, at Fairfield, Neb. He moved with his parents to Newkirk, Okla., in 1919. In November 1919, he moved with his mother and stepfather, Frank Witteman to a farm northwest of Americus. He graduated from St. John's College in Winfield.
He married Mary R. Haworth in 1926 at Cottonwood Falls. She died Nov 2, 1982.
In 1943, he and his wife Mary bought a farm north of Americus. In 1964, they bought a home in Americus, where he lived until he moved to Emporia. Mr Redelfs was a member and past officer of the United Presbyterian Church at Americus. In 1936, he was a master Mason in Americus Masonic Lodge 109, where he was a past master. He was secretary for 47 or his 62 years of membership. He and his wife were members of Americus Chapter 315., Order of the Eastern Star. He was worthy patron five terms. He supported many Americus community projects, especially for young people.
He is survived by a daughter, Barbara Ernst of Americus; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. A son, Richard Redelfs, died May 29, 1995. A brother , Raymond Redelfs and a son in law also died earlier.
