Death of Mrs. Arminda Rich
The death of Mrs. William Rich at her home in Clements removes one of Chase County's oldest residents and best known women. Mrs. Rich died Saturday after several months of gradually failing strength due principally to her age.
The funeral took place in Clements, Monday afternoon at the Clements Presbyterian Church, Rev. Townlay, a close friend of the family, preaching the sermon. Interment was then made in the Clements cemetery.
Mrs. Rich, whose maiden name was Arminda B. Smart, was born Jul 2 1827, in Bennington county, Vermont where her early life was spent. In her young womanhood, she married Dr. William Rich and the family came to Kansas in the early days, locating in this county. Up until his death several years ago, Dr. Rich was the oldest and best known physician of the county as he had been engaged in the practice of medicine at Clements for many years. He died at the age of 82 years.
Mrs. Rich was 88 years of age at the time of her death, which makes the span of life of this well known and honored old couple many years beyond the three score and ten years alloted to man.
Mrs. Rich was a true christian woman who had lived a life filled with deeds of kindness and benevolence to all. She was a faithful wife and a loving mother and in her old age she enjoyed the return of this love and care which was given by her daughter, Miss Bertha Rich, who during the years of her mother's feebleness had been her constant companion and nurse.
Mr. and Mrs. Rich were the parents of four children, two of whom are dead. Miss Bertha Rich and Mrs. Fred Langendorf survive, and the two who are dead are Elmer Rich and Mrs. Miranda Rank.
Not only has Mrs. Rich's death brought great sorrow to her immediate relatives and neighbors but the passing of one who has spent so many years here and was so closely associated,cannot help but bring sadness to all.
