Romigh, W S
W. S. ROMIGH KILLED
His Automobile turned Turtle and
buried him in Spring Creek.
Was returning home from first trip
to town.
W. S. Romigh was instantly killed
at Spring creek just west of the city limits about 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon
and he lay buried in the mud and water
for almost two hours before he was
found.
Mr. Romigh received his auto, an
Oldsmobile runabout , Wednesday of
last week and had not run it until Sunday forenoon when he had Jas. Watson
and W. A. Slater come out to the farm
and help him start it. They got it started
and all three rode to town in it. Mr.
Watson rode around town for some time
with Mr. Romigh and shortly after two
o'clock the latter started for home.
A
little after four o'clock Bob Myers
started to Elmdale and when he saw an
automobile in Spring creek upside
down he thought there had been an accident although he could see no one near
the machine. He came back to town
and a crowd went out to see what had
happened.
It seems that Mr. Romigh must have
made a mistake and guided the machine
to the left when he wanted to turn to
the right. The machine pitch off the
south side of the Spring creek bridge
and landed almost upside down in the
water and mud. Death must have been
instantaneous.BR>
The body was brought
to the Brown undertaking rooms where
it was prepared for burial.
In all the time that Mr. Romig has
been in public life no one ever questioned his honesty nor his ability. While
he was well up in years, being 76 years
old, he was still very active in all public matters and in the management of
his own affairs.
