Jacob Carl Schwindt

Jacob Carl Schwindt, 102, died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003, at Holiday Resort Care Center, Emporia.

Jacob Carl Schwindt, the son of Otto and Sophia Maurer Schwindt, was born Sept. 21, 1901, at Olpe. He had lived in Lyon County all of his life. He quit school in the eighth grade to work on the family farm, and continued farming until his retirement 21 years ago.

He married Rosa May Rice on Nov. 10, 1923, at her parents' home in rural Olpe. She died March 18, 1975. He married Eleanor Heaney Rice on June 7, 1981, at Saffordville. She survives.

Mr. Schwindt was a member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Farm Bureau and Mid-America Dairymen's Association. He had served in numerous church offices and had been a member of the Dixon School Board.

Other survivors include four daughters, Rosa Mae Carlson of Chanute, Grace Eileen VanSickle of Emporia, Alice Louise Wilken of Loveland, Colo. and Clara Ann Coltharp of . Canon City,.Colo; one step-son, Vernon J. Rice of Wichita; one stepdaughter, Marjorie Maupin of Moore, Okla.; two sisters, Ruth Stueve of Olpe and Mabel Matile of San Antonio, Texas; 11 grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren; and one great-great-grand-child.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward and Clyde Schwindt; and four sisters, Louise Mohr, Violet Rinehart, Evelyn Barb and Lila Whitaker.

The funeral service was Nov. 29, in Ebenezer United Methodist Church west of Olpe. Burial was in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Olpe. Pastor Marilyn Christmore of LaCrosse and Pastor Don Barb of Olpe conducted the swervices.
