Shaw, Marilyn Kay Pretzer

Marilyn Kay Shaw, 56, of Arkansas City, died Feb. 13, 2003, at the Via Christi Medical Center - St. Joseph's Campus in Wichita. Memorial services were held Feb. 18, 2003, at the First United Methodist Church in Arkansas City with the Reverend Lance Carrithes officiating. Private family interment followed in the Parker Cemetery. Cremation had taken place.

Marilyn Kay Pretzer was born April 19, 1946, in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of William Earl and Florence Louise Fishburn Pretzer. She graduated from Elmdale High School in 1964 and later from Cowley County Community College, School of Cosmetology. She worked for 10 years at Sandy's Beauty Shop in Arkansas City, and had been currently employed with USD 470, where she had been a school bus driver for 24 years.

On Feb. 27, 1965, she mar- ried James Thomas Shaw in Elmdale. The couple made their home in Arkansas City. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Arkansas City where she was the director and member of the Bell Choir, Adult Choir, the Alter Guild, and pianist for both the early morning and morning services. She was a member of the Alpha Delta Master Sorority of Beta Sigma Phi. She was a longtime volunteer coach for the Arkansas City Recreation Center and an avid supporter of all Arkansas City High School sports programs.

Survivors include her husband Tom of the home; two sons, Jeff and Brian both of Arkansas City; two daughters Jennifer Luis of Newkirk, Okla., Jacinda Kinzie of Manhattan; one brother William Terry Pretzer of Strong City; one sister Diana Oborny of Paola; and 11 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.

The family suggests memo- rials either to the First United Methodist Church Adult Choir and Bell Choir or the Arkansas City All Sports Booster Club. Contributions may be made through the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home of Arkansas City. Online condolences may be made at www.rindt-erdman.com.
