Short, William Berton

William Berton Short, 86, died Thursday, June 30, 2005, at the Chase County Health and Rehabilitation Center in Cottonwood Falls.

William Berton Short, the son of George Fredrick and Maggie Murphy Short, was born Aug. 10, 1918, at Plymouth. He married Bonnie Jean Osborn on April 6, 1945. He was a farmer/stockman in Chase County retiring in 1989. He was a member of the Grandview Community Church and was active in the Chase County Soil Conservation programs.

He is survived by his wife; two brothers, Morris Dean Short, Derby and Richard Lee Short, Paxico; and other relatives. He was preceded in death by one sister, Helen Marie Strome; and three brothers, Kenneth Short, Clayton Fredrick Short and Fredrick Short.

Services celebrating his life were Sunday, July 3, 2005, at the Brown- Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home with Pastor Rick Smith, of the First Baptist Church, Cottonwood Falls, officiating. Burial was in Prairie Grove Cemetery, Cottonwood Falls. Memorial to the Cavalry Barn Preservation Fund may be sent in care of the funeral home, 201 Cherry, Cottonwood Falls, KS 66845.
