Smith, Mayme E

Mayme E. Pinkston Smith, 96, formerly of Cedar Point, died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2004, at Enterprise Nursing Center in Enterprise. She was born to Levi and Ethlyn Pinkston on Oct. 1, 1907, at Wonsevu.

She married Albert T. Smith on Dec. 29, 1949, at El Dorado. He died Nov. 16, 1981.

Mrs. Smith worked as a telephone operator in Seminole, Okla., and as a clerk at Whitcomb's Grocery in Cedar Point. She was a member of the Methodist Church.

Mrs. Smith is survived by a daughter, Kathleen Hyman of Hope; a brother, Alfred "Chub" Pinkston of Branson, Mo.; two grand-daughters; and one great-grandson. She was preceded in death by six brothers, John "Hog" Pinkston, Kenneth "Tac" Pinkston, Clyde "Red" Pinkston, Ralph "Terry" Pinkston, Hugh "Cobby" Pinkston and Willis "Bud" Pinkston; two sisters Katherine Sharrai and Josie Foushee; and twin grand-daughters, Alika May Storey and Carla Lee Storey.

A graveside service was held Sept. 17 at Cedar Point Cemetery, Cedar Point with the Rev. George Lespagnard officiating. Contributions in Mrs. Smith's memory to the nursing home or to Cedar Point Community Church may be sent in care of Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home, 201 Cherry St., Cottonwood Falls, KS 66845.
