Smith, Robert L "Bob"

Robert "Bob" L. Smith, 57, formerly of Kansas City, Kan., died Sunday, Feb. 12, 2006, at his home in rural Cottonwood Falls. Cremation has taken place. There will be no formal service, but there will be a remembrance visitation on Saturday, Feb. 18, from 2 until 4 p.m., at the Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home in Cottonwood Falls. Inurement will be at a later date.

Robert Lynn Smith, the son of Robert and Lois Wade Smith, was born Aug. 4, 1948, in Kansas City, Kan. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant and proudly wore the "Green Beret."

He and Bette L. Lauderback were married March 16, 1995, in Kansas City, Kan. Bob, also known as "KC. Bob," was a boilermaker for 30 years before he retired. He belonged to Local Lodge #83, KC., MO. He was a Brother of Ben Hur Lodge #322 KC., KS. and was a 32-Degree Mason in Scottish Rite of N.E., KS.

He is survived by his wife; a brother, William "Bill" Smith of Kansas City, Kan.; two sisters, Suzie Walker of Gardner and Janet Reno of Oskaloosa; three step-children; and six step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Fred Smith.

Memorial contributions are suggested to an Education Fund for his grandchildren set up at Exchange National Bank in Cottonwood Falls and sent in care of the funeral home, 201 Cherry, Cottonwood Falls, KS 66845.
