Spain, George Raymond

George Raymond Spain, 91, died May 13, 2006 at Marion Manor, Marion.

George, the son of Alonzo Carmon and Subrina Ann Hensley Spain, was born Dec. 15, 1912, in the Wonsevu Community. He attended eight years of schooling at Mars Hill and Pleasant Valley schools in Chase County. He was a fanner and rancher in the Homestead and Elk Communities.

He married Elizabeth "Bessie" Mercer Dec. 26, 1934. She died April 2, 1978. On July 9, 1978, Jack married Hope Patton Koch.

He was a member of the Homestead Friends Church and attended the Eastmoor United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Midian Shrine. He was a former Chase County Commissioner having served in District 3 of Chase County.

He is survived by four step-daughters, LuJean Krause, Emporia, Loma Frederick, Hutchinson, Glenda Taylor, Marion and Marylyn Blanding, Wichita; 12 step-grandchildren; 32 step-great-grandchildren; 14 step-greatgreat-grandchildren; a sister, Marjorie Morgan, Strong City; a brother-in-law: and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hope, April 14, 2006.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 17, at Eastmoor United Methodist Church, Marion with Rev. Robert Priest officiating. Burial was in Homestead Cemetery, rural Cedar Point. A memorial fund has been established with Homestead Cemetery Improvement Fund or St. Luke's Foundation, in Care of Zeiner Funeral Home, 205 Elm St., Marion, KS 66861
