Speer, S M Cottonwood Pioneer Passes in Arizona
S. M. Speer Came to Chase County in the Seventies. Moved 10 Years Ago.
Another of Chase County's old settlers passed away Monday afternoon with the death of S. M. Speer in Tuscola, Arizona, Monday afternoon.
Mr. Speer came to Chase county from Green county, Missouri, in the 70s and lived on a farm south of Cottonwood Falls until about ten years ago. when he moved with his family to Tucson where he resided until his death.
Mr. Speer is survived by his wife and five children: Mrs. R. C. Hunter, Mrs. William Weaver, and Mrs. Walter Davis, all of Tucson; Guy Speer, Cottonwood Falls, and Whit Speer, Manhattan.
Nothing definite was known here by relatives as to funeral arrangements although it was assumed interment would be in Tucson.
Mrs. Speer is a sister of Mrs. W. R. Evans, of Cottonwood Falls.
FUNERAL OF S M SPEER
The funeral services for S. M. Speer who died suddenly at his home at Tucson, Arizona, Monday, August 11th. were held in Tucson last Thursday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock. The service was in charge of the Masonic Lodge of Tucson. Interment was then made it; the Tucson cemetery.
Mr. Speer's death occurred quite suddenly although he had not been in good health for several years and had suffered several light paralytic strokes, prior to his death.
Guy Speer, one of his two sons who survive, received a letter from Tucson telling of the funeral, Monday.
