Stahl, M. Marie Whitford

M. Marie Stahl, 88, died June 19, 2005, at Presbyterian Manor, Newton.

M. Marie, the daughter of Robert and Nellie Phillips Whitford, was born June 30, 1916, in rural Marion. She married August Stahl on Aug. 8, 1936, in Cottonwood Falls. He died in 1985.

She farmed with her husband in the Homestead Community for over 30 years. While living in Newton, she attended Zion Lutheran Church and was on the Zion Lutheran Ladies' Aide. She quilted for the church and was a former Pleasant Circle Member of Newton.

She is survived by a daughter, Esther Teer, Newton; two sons, Donald Stahl, Cottonwood Falls and Dennis Stahl, Newton; a sister, Cecil Swanson, Paola; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Gerald Stahl; three sisters, Helen Theander, Rachel Johnson and Fern Voss; and five brothers, Russell Whitford, Floyd Whitford, Robert Whitford, John Whitford and Albert Whitford.

The service was Wednesday, June 22, 2005, at 1:30 p.m., at Zion Lutheran Church with The Reverend Richard Andres officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery, Newton. Memorials may be made to the Zion Lutheran Church, Presbyterian Manor or Central Homecare and Hospice in care of Petersen Funeral Home, 215 N. Main, Newton, KS 67114.
