Carol Paul "C P" Stair, 96, of Emporia died Feb 8, 2002, at the Vintage Manor. Mr Stair was the owner and operator of the C P Food Market in Emporia, in the 1940 and 1950s, was a former supervisor for the Works Progress Administration and for Jones Construction Company and was an owner and operator of A & W Root Beer in Pittsburg.

Carol Paul Stair, the son of Joseph Leroy and Lawrence Anna Blum Stair, was born Jul 11, 1905 at Emporia. He attended Emporia schools. He married Bernice Nichols on Oct 31, 1925 at Cottonwood Falls. She died Dec 7, 1991.

Mr Stair was a member of the Victory Fellowship Foursquare Church. He is survived by a son, Carol "Gene" Stair of Emporia; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Four brothers and two sisters died earlier. The service was Tuesday in the Patio Garden of memorial Lawn Cemetery. The Rev. Roger Scheibe conducted the service. Memorial contributions to the Beta Sigma Phi Heart Fund may be sent to the funeral home, 501 W Sixth Ave., Emporia 66801.
