Starns, Jackie W

Jackie W. Starns, 69, of Alamo, Texas, formerly of Emporia, died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001, at Rio Grande Regional Hospital, McAllen, Texas.

Jackie W. Starns was born Dec. 17, 1931, in Matfield Green to Cyrus Hugh and Sylvia Starns. He married Anna Carpenter in August 1953. He served in the Korean War in the U S Army was a member of the Christian Church of Medicine Lodge, Post 1980 WFW American Legion # 51, Elks Lodge #357, Neosho Valley Shrine Arab Temple, Nomad Shrine Club, Allmen Temple of Corpus Christy, Scottish Rite Bodies of Wichita and Delta Lodge #77 AF&AM. He retired from Williams Natural Gas Central as a meter technician in 1987. Mr. Starns was preceded in death by his father.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Cindy VanRanken of Andover and Jackie Piha of Douglass; his mother, Sylvia Starns of Halstead; brother, Galen Lee Starns of Lyons; sisters, Irene Pierce of Newton and June Brock of Independence, Mo.; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial services were held at Trophey Gardens, Alamo, Texas, on Nov. 13, 2001 and will be held at Cedar Point Community Church, Cedar Point, on Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001, 10 a.m. Memorials can be made to Shrine Children's Hospital or Cedar Point Community Church and may be sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia. Graveside services will be conducted by Emporia Masonic Lodge #12 AF&Am Cremation has taken place.
