Starns, Sylvia L Patton

Sylvia L. Starns, 97, died Nov. 16, 2005, at Halstead Health and Rehab, Halstead.

Sylvia, the daughter of William Wayne and Maggie Heaps Patton, was born May 3, 1908, at Chelsea, Okla. She married Cyrus Hugh "Doc" Starns in Nowata, Okla., on Jan. 27, 1925. She was a former resident of Chase County.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Eastern Star, formerly Worthy Matron in Chase County.

Sylvia was survived by a son, Galen L. Starns of Lyons; two daughters, Irene L. Pierce of Newton and Phyllis J. Brock of Independence, Mo.; a sister, Maxine Jordan of Buel, Idaho; 15 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and 16 step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Jack W. Starns; her parents; two brothers; and five sisters.

The funeral service was Saturday, Nov. 19, at First Baptist Church. Pastor John Bliss of First Baptist Church, Newton officiated. Burial was in Restlawn Gardens of Memory, Rural Newton. Memorials are suggested to Hospice Care of Kansas or a church of your choice sent in care of Petersen Funeral Home, 215 N. Main, Newton, KS 67114.
