States, Irene Sophia

Irene Sophia States, 79, of Emporia died Nov. 2, 2003 at her home.

Irene Sophia, the daughter of Robert Dewey and Marie Margaret Rosiere Pinkston, was born Jan. 7, 1924, in rural Florence. On March 17, 1953 she married Joseph States at the First United Methodist Church in Emporia. She worked for Hallmark Cards as an inspector and was a sales clerk at Newmans Department Store in Emporia.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Emporia, and Falls Chapter #25 of Eastern Star in Cottonwood Falls.

She is survived by her husband of the home; an uncle, Carl R. Pinkston, of Strong City; and a cousin, Maxine Pinkston of Cottonwood Falls.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents and two uncles, Floyd and John Pinkston. The funeral service will be Nov. 6 at 11 a.m. at Roberts -Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia. Pastor James Darby, First United Methodist Church, Emporia will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Point Cemetery, Cedar Point.

Visitation is 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home. Memorials to the First United Methodist Church may be sent in care of the funeral home, 605 State St. Emporia, KS 66801.
