Stephenson, Gladys Evans

Gladys Stephenson, 93, formerly of Clements, died Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2005, at Pine Grove Nursing Center, Center, Texas.

The daughter of Sidney Leroy and Esther Dooley Evans, Gladys Dooley Evans was born Aug. 26, 1911, at Seneca, Mo. She and George Shaft Stephenson were married April 12, 1932, at the Marion Courthouse. He died Jan. 29, 1995. After his death, Gladys moved to Joplin, Mo. to be close to family. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church at Clements.

She is survived by: five daughters, Donna McCallum of Winfield, Bernice Grimmett of Huxley, Texas, Linda K. Scott of Joplin, Mo., Betty J. Walker of Bossier City, La. and Lila Fanning of Seneca, Mo.; a brother, Max E. Evans of Hollister, Calif.; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Gerald Lee Stephenson; four brothers, Troy Evans, Marvin L. Evans, Maynard 0. Evans and L. Ray Evans; a sister, Lois F. Baum; and two grandchildren. A celebration of life service was held Monday, Aug. 15, 2005, at the BrownBennett-Alexander Funeral Home with The Rev. Pat Ireland of First Presbyterian Church in Cottonwood Falls officiating. Interment followed in Clements Cemetery.
