Stephenson, Kate

At the residence of her parents, W H and R B Stephenson, near Clements, Chase county, Kate Stepenson, aged 18 years, 6 months and 26 days, of consumption, on Tuesday, December 30, 1890 at 2:00 o'clock a.m.

Another bright jewell added to the galaxy of the unseen beyond. Ah, fain would we believe that on one short year she who was so bright, so full of life, so eager for the day, could be brought so low, but relentless death hath found its "shining mark" and cut down with sickle keen the bloom of young womanhood--the hopes and blessings of life's June. How hath all changed. She has passed away, but her memory will ever be cherished in many a loving heart.

Kate Stephenson was born in Jackson county, Ohio June 4, 1874 came with her parents to Chase county, Kansas, where by her kind and loving manner she made a host of friends. She was one of the few of whom it might be said everybody loved her. Her intesne suffering of the past year and particularly of the last few weeks of her life, brought no word of complaint, but she bore it all with the calm fortitude of one whose truth is founded upon the "Rock of Ages", her heart always going out toward those who she regarded as less fortunate than herself.

The funeral services were conducted by the writer at the school house in Clements. The very large attendance at the services only added another token of esteem to which she was held. The sermon was fromn the text of Job, 14th chapter 14th verse--"If a man die, shall he live again" after which the remains were laid at rest in the Clements cemetery by loving hands to await the glad morning when Christ, the Lord, shall come to claim His own.
