Stubenhofer, Frances

And Longtime

Miss Frances Stubenhofer, 79. of Strong City, who was a retired registered nurse and one of Chase County's most respected and well known citizens, died Friday night in St. Mary's Hospital, Emporia. She had been hospitalized several weeks in recent months.

Born on a farm on Diamond creek north of Elmdale, Dec. 20, 1891, the daughter of George and Nora Maloney Stubenhofer, she received her early schooling in Chase County.
In 1914 She,was graduated from St. John's Hospital School of Nursing at Leavenworth where she remained for a time as a surgical nurse. Upon returning to Chase County, she did private duty and also worked at the old and new St. Mary's Hospital in Emporia.
In 1962, the Stubenhofer home in Strong City, where her parents had moved from the farm in 1920 became the Stubenhofer Maturnity Home, operated by Miss Stubenhofer
and her sister, Miss Helen Stubenhofer, also an R. N. It remained in that location until 1951, when it was moved, to the hill on Cottonwood Ave.
Miss Stubenhofer assisted at the birth of between 2,000 and 2,250 infants, who came from a wide area of the state, 1,800 of whom are recorded and the others in private home, are an estimate.
Completing 50 years as a nurse in Chase County on June 18, 1962, friends honored her for the 'half century of dedicated service to the area by holding an open house reception in St. ,Anthony's Hall, Strong City; which upwards of 300 persons attended.
A member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Strong City, and of its Altar Society her religious faithfulness was an inspiration and her acts of kindness are legion.

Surviving Miss Stubenhofer are, one brother, Karl Stubenhofer, Strong City; two sisters Mrs , I. J. (Gertrude) Rettiger, Strong City, and Miss Helen Stuberhofer, of the; home; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, George 9tubenhofer
and one sister Mae Deragisch.
Recitation of the Rosary was held at' 7:30 p. m. Sunday in the Croy Funeral Home, Cottonwood Falls. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Authony's Catholic Church. Officiating were the Rev. Fathers William J. Cremin, of the local church; Clifford A. Landis, Sacred Heart Church, F l o r e n c e, and Joseph Tockert Chicopee and Cherokee Churches. Music, was by Mrs. Howard Roberts. Active pallbearers were Howard Stubenhofer, David Rettiger. William J. Stubenhofer, Jim Stubenhofer, Jack Holmberg and Jack Grant. Honorary bearers were Paul Stubenhofer, Harold Wiebrecht, Hugh Campbell, James O'Reilly, David Daub and Joe Gamer. Burial was in St. Anthony's Cemetery.

Nash and Amy Armagost, Newton; Mr. and Mrs. Jack Grant and family and Joe Gamer, Wichita; Mr. and Mrs, David Rettiger, Overland Park; Mr. and Mrs. John Scholler, El Dorado Mrs. S. A. Shreck, Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Evans, Mrs. James Muckenthaler, Mrs. Arnold Tosco, Mrs. Maude Drummond, Mrs. L. W. Gillespie, Mrs. Mila Ludwig, Mrs. Elmer Ludwig, Ethel Brickley, Mr. and Mrs. Leo M. Nash, all of Emporia; Mrs. Margaret E. Lyons, Burns.
