Stubenhofer, Howard Joseph

Howard J. Stubenhofer, 77 of Strong City died at the Chase County Health & Rehabilitation Center in Cottonwood Falls Thursday, Feb. 10, 2000. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Strong City. The Rev. Colin Boor officiated. A Rosary was recited Friday, Feb. 11, in the Brown-Bennett- Alexander Chapel led by Mary Ann McCallum. A military graveside service was conducted in St. Anthony's Cemetery by the Fort Riley Honor Guard.

Howard Joseph Stubenhofer was born on Oct. 22, 1922, near Elmdale to Karl W. and Bertha Bechelmayr Stubenhofer. He married Iladean Fyfe on May 8, 1943 in Strong City. Mr. Stubenhofer owned and operated Stubenhofer Plumbing in Strong City from 1960 until 1983. He was an Army Veteran of WWII, was a Strong City Councilman and on the Chase County USD 284 School Board many years. He was a Charter Member of the Strong City Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Strong City Veterans of Foreign Wars and Russell Blackburn American Legion Post #123.

He is survived by his wife, Iladean Stubenhofer of the home; sons, Bill Stubenhofer of Strong City and Mike Stubenhofer of Bixby, Okla. two daughters, Mary Bissa of Phoenix, Ariz., and Kris Talkington of Strong City; a brother, Jim Stubenhofer of' Emporia; two sisters, Ruth Holmberg of Topeka and Jo Grant of Wichita; nine grand- children; and two great-grand- children. Memorials are suggested to the St. Anthony's Hall in care of the funeral home.
