Thorton, Lawrence Fred "Larry"

Former Emporia resident Lawrence Fred "Larry" Thornton, 76, died Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2006.

Mr. Thornton, who attended Emporia schools, was a retired Beech Aircraft avionics engineer. He was a professional in the Professional Golf Association, a pilott and was involved with Junior Golf.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Rogers 'Thornton; a son, Phillip Thornton of Cottonwood Falls; two daughters, Kim Gould of Kailua, Oahu, Hawaii and Melissa Taylor . of Apache Junction, Ariz.; two step-sons, Jeff Williams of Kansas' City and Tony Williams of Wichita; one stepdaughter, Gina Williams of Derby; seven grandchildren; and five stepgrandchildren.

The memorial service was Friday, Nov. 17, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Wichita. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Junior Golf Foundation, c/o Marge Page, 58 Via Verde, Wichita, KS 67230 or Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, 313 S. Market, Wichita, KS 67202. Downing and Lahey Mortuary East in Wichita was in charge of the arrangements. Messages to the family may be left at www.downinglahey.com.
