Mrs. M. D. Umberger Dies At Manhattan
Pioneer Chase County Woman Was
Buried Tuesday Beside Husband at Elmdale.
Mrs. Sarah Umberger, widow of the late Martin D. Umberger, and both pioneer residents of Chase County, died Sunday in Manhattan where she has made her home with her son, Harry Umberger, dean of the extension division at Kansas State College, since 1916. Funeral services for Mrs. Umberger, who was 89 years of age, were held in Manhattan, Tuesday, and the body was then, brought to Elmdale for interment beside her husband. Services at the Elmdale cemetery were at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon.

Umberger was born in Milwaukee, Wisc., November 4, 1855, and passed away Jul 01. 1934 at Manhattan, Kans. She came to Kansas in 1868 to live with her parents, who had preceded her, and at once. began her residence near where Hymer has since been situated. She lived here during her entire married life.
On her trip to Kansas
she traveled by rail to Junction City, which although 45 miles from her ultimate destination was at that time the nearest railroad, point. Since 1916, Mrs. Umberger has made her home in Manhattan, Kans.
In 1880 she married Martin D. Umberger, who died October 6, 1911. To this union were born four children, all living: Harry, J. C. and Grace E. of Manhattan, Mrs. G. V. Long of Costa Rica, Central America, and Lewis M. of Alberta, Canada.
