Urbanek, William "Bill"

William “Bill” Urbanek, 83, died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2007, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

He was born Nov. 18, 1923, at Pilsen, the son of Agnes Ladman and John Urbanek.

He married Norma R. Hecht on June 3, 1967, in Wichita. She survives, is of Newton.

Bill and Norma lived in Pilsen, where they operated the family farm and he was a self-employed mechanic. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Newton. He also was a member of the Midwestern Polka Club.

He is also survived by a daughter, Sandy Pontious of McPherson; a sister, Blanche Sherffius of Cottonwood Falls; two granddaughters; and a nephew, Don Bezzdek, Hillsboro.

Funeral services were Thursday, Feb. 8, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Newton with the Revs. James Mainzer and Paul O’Borny officiating. Burial was at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Newton.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in care of Broadway Colonial Funeral Home in Newton.
