Waddell, Irene Elva

Elva Irene Waddell, 88, died Jan. 15, 2007, at Parkside Special Care Center in San Diego, Calif.

The daughter of Charles F. and Effie Mae Gurney, she was born April 22, 1918, at Clements. She graduated from Chase County Community High School in Cottonwood Falls in 1936.

Elva married Robert “Bob” Waddell April 29, 1937, and they both worked in his father’s hardware store in Cottonwood Falls until World War II began.

In 1948 they started their business, Waddell Plumbing Co, in San Diego, Calif. and ran it for 30 years.

She is survived by a son Robert M. Waddell II of Warren, Mich.; a daughter, Betty Jo Cerney of La Mesa, Calif.; a sister, Joan Austin of Romona, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1986; and a daughter, Nancy.

A memorial service was conducted Jan. 27, in Pacific Beach Chapel at San Diego, Calif. She was interred at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in a private service.
