Watson, James Lafayette
James Lafayette Watson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Pet Watson, was born in
Bucklin, Mo., January 8, 1856 and died at Strong City, March 19, 1925, being 69 years, 2 months, and 11 days old.
As a youth of 8 years he came to Kansas with his parents and has made Chase county his home since. Mr. Watson was one of the old settlers of Chase county, having come here in the days before the railroad. were built. He has lived to see Chase county grow to its present state, and watched with pride its progress and development.
In 1886 he was united in marriage lo Miss Etha Mills of Bucklin, Mo,, and to this union three children were born, two daughter and one son, who are Anna, William, Carrie. In 1891 the mother passed away.
In 1893 he was united in marriage to Miss Luella Clem. To this union four children were born, Elmer, Mollie,
Nellie, and Helen. Nellie died in infancy, and the eldest daughter, Mrs. Otto Frey of Elmdale, died about two months ago.
Mr. Watson leaves to mourn his loss one sister, Mrs. A. D. Parks of Florence, Kansas, and five children and eightgrandchildren. The children are: Mrs: A. B. Jackson of Minot, N. D, Mrs. A. P Caudle of Kansas City, Kans., Mrs. Helen Dryden, of Kansas City, Mo., William Watson of Strong City, and Elmer Watson of Cottonwood Falls. Many other relatives and a host of friends mourn his loss.
Funeral services were held at the Mcthodist church March 21 at 2:30 p. m., Rev, C. E. Tanner officiating. Interment was in the Strong City cemetery.

Jame L. Watson, a resident of Chase county for sixty-one years, is( dead. Mr. Watson who was born in Bucklin, Mo., in 1856, came to Kansas with his parents when eight years of
age and this county had since been his home. He is survived by his wife and five children who are Mrs. A. B. Jackson of Minot, North Dakota; Mrs. A. P. Caudle of Kansas City, Kansas; Mrs. Helen Drysden of Kansas City, Mo.; and William and Elmer Watson, of Strong City.
Mr. Watson's death occurred at his home in Strong City last Thursday, March 19th. The funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Strong City at 2:30 Saturday afternoon, March 21st, Reverend C E Tanner, pastor of the
Strong City. M. E. church, preaching the sermon. Interment was then made in the Strong City cemetery.
