Whinery, Alva
Alva Whinery, the eleven year old son of Mr. and Mrs. William Whinery of this city, died at the Axtell hospital Sunday after a lingering illness of typhoid fever. The remains were brought to Strong City Tuesday and the funeral services were held Wednesday at the M. E. church by Rev. Lacy and burial was made in the Strong City cemetery.

Sickness and death have been following the William A. Whinery family, of Strong City, most relentlessly. Nearly a month ago, Mrs. Whinery and every one of her five children took down with typhoid fever and then a ? who was staying with the family became ill with same disease. All seven patients were taken to the Axtell hospital at Newton where a few days later, Gladys, an 8-year-old daughter died. Sunday another child, Alvin, 12 years of age died following nearly a month’s illness. Mrs. Whinery and her three surviving children are all still seriously ill with the disease, while her nephew is still sick.
Mrs. Whinery is the wife of a Santa Fe bridge carpenter who is working with a bridge gang near this city. This is the first outbreak of typhoid fever to occur in this immediate vicinity in a number of months but the tenacity and severe form of the epidemic in the Whinery family has proven most fatal.
