Whitney, Julia G.

Julia G. Whitney, 92, longtime resident of Chase County, died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2007, at the Golden Living Center of Chase County, Cottonwood Falls.

Mrs. Whitney was a homemaker and school teacher.

The daughter of Leroy M. and Inez Gillett Giger, she was born June 6, 1914, at Burr, Texas. From the age of five, she lived in Chase County.

She married J.H. “Had” Whitney on March 17, 1934, at Newton. He died Apri1 1, 1973.

She attended KSTC for two years and received a teaching certificate. She was a member of Business Professional Women.

She is survived by one son, Richard D. Whitney of Elmdale; one daughter, Marjorie W. Nash of Warsaw, Va.; one brother, Edwin Giger of Elmdale; one sister, Lela M. Christlieb of Herington; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. A sister, Irma Shebi, died earlier.

She was cremated. The memorial service will be held at the Elmdale Methodist Church, with the time and date to be announced by the Croy Funeral Home in Cottonwood Falls.
