Wright, Joseph C.
The following is taken from the Washta, Iowa, Journal, and tells of the death of J. C. Wright, father of W. W. Wright of Cedar Point, who died last week. Mr. Wright for several years made his home at Cedar Point at the home of his son and there are many in this county who will hear of his death with considerable regret:
“Joseph C. Wright was born in the state of Vermont Nov. 1, 1824, and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. McCoun, May 7, 1911, aged 86 years, 6 months and 6 days.
When a young man he moved with his parent to Du Page County, Ill.
It was here that he married Eleanor D. VanTassel to which union five children were born, two of which died in infancy. The three living are: Mrs. J. McCoun of Washta, W. W. Wright, of Cedar Point, Kansas, and Edwin Wright.
"Mr. Wright moved to Black Hawk county, Iowa, Where resided until 1873, when he moved to Kasas where he remained until 1882, when he came to Washta and has since made his home with his daughter, Mrs. John McCoun.
“Mr. Wright served his country during the civil war and was a member of 81st Iowa Infantry, Company D.
Mr. Wright has been a faithful Christian and loyal member to the church in his community. In 1886, when Cong. church was organized in Washta he became one of its charter menbers and until failing health prevented he was to be found in his place every Sunday.
“The funeral was conducted by his pastor, J. E. Parker, at the McCoun home Tuesday afternoon and a large number of friends of the family were in attendance, including all the old soldiers of the community and several from Correctionville representing the G. A. R. Post, of which the deceased was a member. After the funeral H. L. Felter and Harry Clark played martial music as the casket was taken to the depot. W. W. Wright, Mr. and Mrs. McCoun left with the remains on the afternoon train for LaPorte, Ia., where he was buried by the side of his wife who died several years ago.”
