Wright, Willard W.
W. W. Wright of Cedar Point, died at the home of this daughter, Mrs. Flora Moffitt, at Lydia, Kansas, Saturday, Sept. 11th. Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Bickle of this city, received a message telling of Mr. Wright’s death early last Sunday morning. Mrs. Bickel is a sister of Mrs. Wright, now deceased.
Mr. Wright’s death comes as a shock to his many Chase county friends and acquaintances as few knew of his serious illness. He left this county last June for an extended visit with his children going to California and from there returned to Lydia, Kansas, August 1st, where he had been at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Moffitt. He became ill several weeks ago.
The remains were brought to Cedar Point, Monday. The funeral services were held at the Cedar Point Church at 2:00 o’clock Thursday afternoon. Rev. Homer Fintel, preaching the sermon after which interment was made in the Clements cemetery, where Mrs. Wright and some of the Wright children are buried.
Mr. Wright was about 70 years of age. He had lived in this county for fifty years. During his earlier life he was engaged in farming but for many years he has been engaged in bridge building and scores of bridge and culvert jobs all over Chase county have been done by him. His last contract for the county was on Highway No. 50S east of SaffordVille some months ago.
Mr. Wright’s death occurred Jan. 3lst, 1926.
Mr. Wright is survived by seven children. Mrs. Flora Moffitt of Lydia, Kansas; Mrs. Nellie Hall of Phoenix, Ariz.; Mrs. Cornelia Foushee of Ottawa, Kansas; Mrs. Jennie Meade of Blackfoot, Idaho; Joe and Charles Wright of Riverside, California, and Miss Laura Wright of Cedar Point.

Williard W. Wright was born at Laporte City, Iowa, Feb. 24th, 1858, and departed from this life Sept. 17th. 1927, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Flora Moffitt at Lydia, Kansas,
at the age of 69 years, 6 months and 23 days.
He moved to Kansas in 1879, and lived with his father on a farm 5 miles north of Cedar Point.
He was married Effie Anna Pierce, Jan. 24th, 1882. To this union were born 9 children, 6 girls and 3 boys. Two of these preceeded him in death, Frank and May.
Mrs. Wright’s death occurred Jan. 31, 1925. There is left to mourn his death, his children; Mrs. Flora Moffitt, Lydia, Kans.; Mrs. Nellie Hall, Glendale, Ariz.; Mrs. Jennie Mead, Blackfoot, Idaho; Mrs. Cornelia Foushee, Ottawa, Kansas; Mr. Joe Wright and Charles Wright of Riverside, Calif.; and Laura Wright of Cedar Point, Kansas. He also leaves 12 grandchildren and his sister, Mrs. C. M. McCoun of Washta, Iowa.
The remains were brought to Cedar Point where the funeral services were held Sept. 24th after which interment was made in the Clements cemetery beside the gravea of Mrs. Wright and the two children who are dead.
Mr. Wright was a member of the Church of Christ. He was a man of few words but under that seemingly impenetrable reserve was a character of infinite kindness. To his family he was a father and husband who loved his little flock as only a true father knows how to love. To his neighbors he was a man of the most upright character and one to whom the highest respect is accorded. In his business dealings with his fellow men he was known for his scrupulous, integrity and fairness.
Truly his death means a real loss to the county and the multitude of friends and neighbors and associates he leaves, while to the eight children who survive,his passing is a sad shock they will ever mourn.
