Young, Emma Hazel
Mrs. Emma Young, nee Hazel, was born at Bloomfield; Trumble county, Ohio, April 9, 1864. She died at the home of her sister, Mrs. G. A. Harris, at Neva near Elmdale, Kansas, June 22, 1924. Mrs. Young had been in poor health for a number of years. Her last sickness lasted nine weeks.
The deceased came to Kansas from Ohio, with her father’s family when about 14 years of age. They made their home in Cottonwood Falls.
In 1883 she was married to Mr. W. H. Spencer. To them was born one son, William. Mr. Spencer died in 1913. After his death the home was successively at Cottonwood Falls, at Bazaar and with her sister, Mrs. Harris.
December 25, 1915, a second marriage was consumated with Harlan Young and the home was at Hymer, Kansas. After about five years Mrs. Young was again widowed by the death of Mr. Young, and her home has since been much of the time with Mrs. Harris.
Mrs. Young has indeed been a great suffered. Mr. Hazel and Mrs. Harris have stayed faithfully by her bedside during the long days and nights of many weeks careing for their sister during her tolerable sufferings. But in the midst of all her pain Mrs. Young maintained her full consciousness and fully and wisely made for her businees for both before and after her decease, fortelling the end with accuracy. She spoke of Christian faith and departed ones.
She leaves five sisters and two brothers, Miss Mary A. Hazel, Mrs. Minnie Madden and Mrs. Millie Anderson, all of Topeka and Mrs. Clara Shofe of Memphis, Tenn., and Mrs. A. G. Harris of Elmdale, and Mr. J. F. Hazel of Chetopa, Kansas and Mr. Herman A. Hazel of Elmdale, Kansas. These with the son, Mr. William Spencer of Topeka, are the very near relatives living.
Mrs. Young was a member of a large family, fourteen brothers and sisters whose records have been for honesty and industry. Mrs. Young was well provided for by the estate of Mr. Young.
The funeral services were conducted from the A. G. Harris home, Tuesday at 2:00 p. m., June 24, and interment made in the Cottonwood Falls cemetery.

Mrs. Emma Young, sixty years of age and a resident of this county for the past forty-six years is dead at the home of her sister, Mrs. A. G. Harris, near Elmdale.
Mrs. Young a survived by one son who is William Spencer, of Topeka, and also leaves seven brothers and sisters. They are J. F. Hazel of Chetopa, Kans.; Miss Mary A. Hazel, Mrs. Minnie Madden and Mrs. Millie Anderson all of Topeka; Mrs. Clara Shofe of Memphis, Tenn.; H. A. Hazel and Mrs. A. G. Harris of this county.
Mrs. Young’s death occurred about 9:45 a.m. Sunday following a long illness. She had been at the home ‘of her sister, Mrs. Harris, for the past three or four months.
The funeral is to be held at the Harris home on Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock, Rev. E. V. Allen, of Elmdale, preaching the sermon after which interment will be made in Prairie Grove cemetery west of this city.
