THE LOGAN SECURITY COMPANY


  An institution that forms an important part in the business life of Cherokee County and one that is contributing its full share toward the growth and material advancement of the community in which it is operating, is the Logan Security Company, whose well-appointed offices are located in rooms 2 and 3, Logan building, occupying the Southeast corner of the block facing the Public Square at the corner of Maple Street and Pennsylvania Avenue.
  This Company devotes its energies to the making of abstracts and perfecting land titles, also makes

farm loans on favorable terms, deals in City property and farm lands, looks after rental property for non-residents and writes insurance.
  In the abstract department, its facilities embrace the ownership of books and documents containing a complete record of the transfers, sub-divisions and encumbrances covering all real estate in Cherokee County prior to the destruction of the County records. It is prepared to issue certificates of title and complete abstracts of all land transactions that may take place within the confines of the County, and at a cost which is consistent with the value of the service rendered.
  The Logan County Security Company is one of the pioneer institutions of this section of the State. The business was originally founded about 32 years ago and incorporated under the laws of the State about 11 years ago. J. Wilbur Logan is President and Manager of the business in this City; his son, Combs D. Logan, is Vice-President and Manager of the Baxter Springs office, and John Kanatzer is Secretary, whose connection with the Company began back in the early nineties. They are men of superior attainments along commercial lines, stand high in all circles and have always had the best interests of the community at heart.

He also maintains a well equipped Service Department and carries a line of repair parts, accessories, tires, oils, gas, etc. This business is located on North Kansas avenue and has been established four years. Mr. Zimmerman is an enterprising citizen and takes an active part in every movement for the advancement of the community at large.

BLUE RIBBON BAKERY.


  For six years the bread and entire line of bakery products turned out by the Blue Ribbon Bakery have acknowledged no superior in any town or city in the country in point of general excellence. They use only the purest and best of ingredients and the establishment is absolutely sanitary in every particular. Bread, cakes, pies and all other features of the bakery business are turned out in the same first-class and appetizing manner. In connection with the bakery they also carry a well selected line of high-grade confectionery. This business is well located in modern quarters at 117 E. Maple street. The place is equipped with all up-to-date conveniences and the splendid trade enjoyed has been built on quality and service. Mrs. Ida Reynolds is manager. She is a lady of business ability and high integrity and enjoys the fullest esteem and confidence of the masses.

WILSON'S GROCERY.


  One of the substantial and well known mercantile establishments of Columbus is Wilson's Grocery. This store was established fifteen years ago and has always been known as a most safe and satisfactory place at which to trade. The store is equipped with fixtures of a modern type and the stock carried is one of the largest and best selected of its kind in the City. They carry staple and fancy groceries, fruits, produce, etc., and afford prompt delivery service to any part of the City. Patrons of the house have found it fitted to fill all their needs and they have further found that an absolute square deal goes hand in hand with every purchase, large or small. The business is owned by R. G. Wilson. He conducts his affairs along modern lines and is one of the sincere exponents of all measures advanced for the public good. Phone 79, east side Square.

G. W. BELT.


  In heralding the progress of Cherokee County,, it is fitting that we devote some space to G. W. Belt, located on the southwest corner of the square. This is one of the old established, widely known and successful retail enterprises of the county. Mr. Belt opened his doors for business at Columbus back in 1883, and has always been accorded a liberal share of patronage. His store is a model of neatness, good taste and conveniences and is completely stocked with jewelry, jewelry novelties, watches, clocks, china, glass, tinware, household necessities, etc. A special feature of the house is a well-equipped repair department. Mr. Belt is an expert jeweler and watchmaker, also a registered optometrist, and makes examinations and tests of the eyes free of charge. He is a clear-headed and progressive business man and his name is closely allied with the development of the territory in which he is operating.
