With total resources of $416,977.92, capital stock, $50,000.00, surplus and undivided profits, $6,986.74, and DEPOSITS of $307,761.50, it ranks with the greatest financial institutions to be found in the smaller cities of the State. It transacts a legitimate banking business in all its departments and offers to the local public every service consistent with modern methods. It is directed and controlled by men whose conservative policies insure the most perfect safety of all finances entrusted to their keeping, as well as the continued prosperity of the institution itself. Its home is a substantial, two-story structure, located at the corner of 12th Street and Military Avenue. It is equipped with one of the best systems of fire and burglar-proof safes and vaults to be found in this section, while the fixtures are made of highly polished marble and bronze, and the floor is laid with tile.

It has been Mr. Opperman's privilege to witness almost every stage of the development of Baxter Springs, and not only to watch this development, but to be a power in promoting it has been his privilege and pleasure. He came to this community in the early days and has been established in the harness and saddlery business here for more than fifty-two years. He has probably been in business continuously longer than any other man in the State. Mr. Opperman is a dealer in harness, saddlery and horse goods of every description; also does harness repairing. He is an expert in this line and guarantees all his work to give satisfaction. Mr. Opperman is widely known throughout the district and has contributed much toward the upbuilding of this city and section.
