I would appreciate your advice. Some of my ancestors claim to have been born in Cherokee County, Kansas in the latter half of the 19th. century.Their details are as follows:- Thomas PIGFORD born about 1889 and Matthew PIGFORD born about 1892.
They were both miners and I believe that their father was John PIGFORD and their mother was Ann.
I got this information from the Ellis Island site where both of the above claimed that Cherokee was their place of birth on their re-entry into the USA in 1920.
Incidentally they claim that an uncle John McCLENHAN, Radley, Crawford Co. Kansas paid for their ticket.
An added problem is that this family changed their name from PIGG to PIG(G)ford in the mid 19th century and sometimes reverted to PIGG.
I would appreciate any help or advice you can give me in identifying their dates of birth and what they were doing in Cherokee Co. Kansas, I suspect it was mining for all of the family were miners in County Durham, and Northumberland, England.
Thank you,
Wilf Laidler

I know my grandfather was Edward C. Pigg (son of Samuel & Sarah)of Cherokee County. I thought my grandmother's name was Maude Euart. However, recently learned of marriage cert. in Cherokee Co., 12/1/1897 to E.C. Pigg, age 25 (which matches) and Maude Farquar. I have not been able to locate info on either and appreciate any advice given. Also, my father was James E. Pigg, born 10/2/1902 in Cokedale, Ross twp. He left KS in the 20's, changed name to Thorpe, moved to Oregon, and never revealed his family or past. Thanks for anyone's assistance!!

We are looking for leads concerning my husbands family on 1900 census:

David John b Dec 1856 in PA
Catherine John (wife) b Dec 1854 Wales
Eustace John (son) b Jan 1894 ILL
Arthur John (son) b July 1890 KS

They are at the same location in the 1910 census but we cannot find them after this census.

Anyone researching John families in this area we would be most appreciative of any help to locate them.

We have an Arthur John born 26 July 1891 died March 1966 Kansas but do not know how to locate further information to see if he is our Arthur any help in this direction would also be appreciated.

You can email us direct if you wish.
Many thanks in advance
Lyn and Steve John
