The 1900 Census has a John Holmes, b. 1882 (probably my great grandfather) living as a "servant" with a Louis Myers, b. June 1855 in Cherokee Township. John Holmes was a "day laborer" and Louis Myers was a "coal operator". Is there anyone out there who is known to be related to Mr. Holmes or Mr. Myers? Thanks.

I am researching the family of Henry Floyd Poole and wife, Nettie Josephine Morris Poole of Galena. They had four children, William Harvey, Amber Ota, Audrey, and Paul Morris Poole. William Harvey Poole was my grandfather and he married Dorothy Hicks of Columbus, later moving to Columbus. Grandma Poole (Nettie J. Morris Poole) lived to the ripe old age of 96. When I visited with her in 1958 when she was 95 she was living by herself and just as spry and bright as she could be. Does anybody know if there are good newspaper records or other records in which these individuals may have appeared. I believe Henry Floyd Poole and William Harvey Poole may have held public office either in Galena, or in the county, but I'm not sure. My e-mail address is MPooleIV@aol.com. Thanks.

Seek info on Mrs. Mary LEE, b. IA 1866, thought to be the mother of Henry LEE, b KS 1887, who was in Scammon, Cherokee Co., KS in 1900 (on Railroad Street) with his widowed grandmother, Margaret HARRIS, b. OH 1842, and her coal miner son Samuel HARRIS, b. IA 1871. Mary's whereabouts then are unknown. The Harrises came to KS from Decatur Co., IA and were still in Scammon in 1910.
