Topic: Marlett-Snider-Rakes
From: Sharen Durler Pflughoeft pflughoeft@aol.com
Date: Monday, April 21, 2003 04:31 PM

My Great-Great Grandmother Arena Snider married Benjamin F. Marlett approximately around 1861 when she was 17 years old. Benjamin had joined with her family to come down to the Fort Scott and then Baxter Springs area from New York...her mother died as did a 4-year year old brother David and both were buried along the trail. After her dad died, Benjamin married Arena in order to help raise her 3 siblings....Wil, Alem, and Rebecca. Alem (1851-1935) buried at Brown's Grove Cemetery, Burdett, Ks., Rebecca married Enoch "Chord" Stone and both are buried at Old Soldiers Cemetery in Fort Dodge, Ks. Benjamin and Arena later had 3 children of their own...

John Barton Marlett (married Margaret Lucinda Moore)who had 5 childred - Vernal, Ben, Alice, Clara, Effie

Mary Lydia Marlett (born in 1867 had one child named Iva Marlett who married Marcus Rakes who in turn had 4 children all who lived in Cherokee County at least for a good part of their lives...Mildred Decie currently living in Ness City, Ks, Ray born 1907 died 1992, Walter, and Delbert.

Here's what I'm looking for:
1. Wil Snider
2. I beleive that Benjamin F. and Arena Snider are buried at Lowell Cemetery...so I'm looking to confirm that and find the names of their parents and siblings
3. In the Lowell Cemetery there is a Rakes grave marker that I need to know who is buried there (possibly parents of Marcus Rakes...Marcus is buried with Iva at Ness City)

Thanks to anyone who can lead me in the right direction.

Sharen Durler Pflughoeft (Mother is a Marlett)
