My Grandmother was Maine Jenkins b. 12 May 1898 in Cherokee Co., KS Her father was James H. Jenkins and a dentist. I am having a very hard time trying to find James and his practice. He was married to Eda Jones from England and she passed in the 1920's. He supposedly married his dental assistant after Eda's death. My grandmother had a brother named Antlers James Jenkins. Don't laugh, I have his funeral guest book. He was also born in Cherokee Co., about 1902. I can't find him either. He was a shoe repairman. Can anyone help me out? Thanks alot, Pam

Jenkins was born in Ohio November 17,1846 and departed this life at his home in Effingham, March 8,1917 being 70 years 3 months and 21 days old. He lived with his parents until he grew to manhood and moved to Illinois with them in 1869. He was united in marriage to Miss Sarah Jane Rawlins in Toledo, Ill. on July 15,1869. To this union was born 12 children 4 of whom preceded him to the grave while they were in infancy. He leaves to mourn their loss, eight children and one brother, Perry Jenkins of Lerna, Ill., 21 grand children 2 great grandchildren. The children who survive him are Emery of Lerna, Ill., Frank of Funkhouser, Mrs. Mary Orr, Mrs. Chas. Warner, Mrs. Edith Yocum, Charley, Lewis, and Bennie of Effingham. He was a kind neighbor, a good husband and it a rule of his life to never say ill of any one and if he could not say a good word he held his peace. Came to Illinois with his parents at the age of five years. His father passed away in 1887. He with his mother then moved to Missouri, where he lived till about seven years ago, then he removed to Illinois. The 15th of last April his mother passed away. Since the death of his mother he has had no permanent home but has lived with his brothers and sisters. He was a member of the Woodmen of the World. During his last sickness he was very patient and departed this life at the home of his sister, Mrs. Jacob W. Bingham three miles east of Gosport, Oct 28, aged 45 years, 11 months and 19 days. Deceased leaves to mourn his death three sisters and two brothers, besides many lifelong friends. Funeral services were held at the M.P. Church in Gosport, Monday Oct 29, and burial was made in the cemetery near by. ------------------------------- THE JOURNAL KNOXVILLE, IOWA JUNE 22, 1933 Mrs. Ora Bingham Mrs. Ora Bingham, daughter of D.H. and Elizabeth Rawlins, was born Feb. 23, 1868, in Hardin county, Ohio, and departed this life June 16, 1933 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lloyd Gee, Pleasantville, where she has made her home most of the time the last three years, at the age of 65 years, 3 months and 23 days. In 1886 she was united in marriage to Frederic H. Kimbro, who departed this life March 28, 1901. To this union one daughter was born, Mrs. Harrison Bingham, of Dallas. In February, 1903, she was again united in marriage to Jacob W. Bingham, who preceded her in death on Nov. 30,1932. To this union three children were born, all of whom are living. They are: Wilbur Bingham, Gosport; Mrs. Lloyd Gee, Pleasantville; Everett Bingham, Tracy. Besides her four children she leaves to mourn their loss two brothers; Wesley Rawlins of Miamond, MO., and Albert Rawlins of Colfax. Eleven grandchildren, three great grandchildren, four step-daughters and two-step sons, and a host of friends. Two sisters and three brothers have preceded her in death. At an early age she became a member of the Protestant church in Illinois, and later moved her membership to the Gosport M.P. church of which she remained a faithful member. Funeral services for James Wesley Rawlins, 84 years old, a retired farmer, who died at 1:50 o'clock Sunday morning at the home of his son, W.H. Rawlins, east of Joplin, will be held in the Hurlbut chapel at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon. The Rev. B. A. Pugh will officiate. Burial will be in Ozark Memorial Park cemetery. ---------------------------------------------- Obituary from Albert & Mary Rimmer Rawlins' bible [Nov. 1945] Albert Rawlins, son of Dillard and Elizabeth Rawlins, was born July 5, 1861, in Shelby county, Illinois, and passed away on Nov.20,1945, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Temple, in Chariton, at the age of 84 years, four months and 15 days. When a small lad the family moved to Gramby, Mo., and lived there until he came to manhood, In the year of 1889 he was united in marriage to Mary Rimmer, who survives him. To this union were born eleven children, one son, Harvey, and one daughter, Daisy, precede him in death, Those left to mourn their loss besides the loving wife, are Archie of Newton; Virgil and Charlie, of Colfax. Clyde, of Galesburg, Frank, of Pine River, Minn; Albert of Russell; Mrs., Myrtle Temple, of Chariton. Mrs, Ruth Temple, of Gosport, and Mrs. Auise Carter, of Newton. Mr. And Mrs. Rawlins lived in Missouri until 1914, then moved to Colfax, Iowa, which since has been their home. When a young man Mr. Rawlins accepted Christ as his personel Saviour and wa s baptized and united with the Christian church at Granby, Mo. To ever present christian faith which he possessed and his stability and strength of character will always be an inspiration to those who knew him. Surviving him besides the wife and above named children are 36 grandchildren and 16 great grand-children and many friends who will remember him because of his sterling qualities always ready to help those in need and keenly in interested in the welfare of his own loved ones. The funeral services were conducted at the Miley funeral home Saturday, December 22, at Chariton by the Rev. A. E. Beals. Interment was in the Gosport cemetery.

Galena, Kansas Dec. 15, 1891 Dear Sirs, In the Pension Claim of the Widow of Dillard H. Rawlins, No. 414093. Co. H. 135 Reg. H, Ohio Infantry. I visited the said Dillard H. Rawlins on the 12th day of April A.D. 1887 and found him suffering from an extensive fracture of the scull and severe contusion and laceration of the brain; the result of having been thrown from a wagon against a stump, while the team hitched to said wagon was running away. That said Rawlins died sometime between 12 oclock a.m. on the 12th day of April A.D. 1887 and the 13th day of April at 12 oclock p.m. 1887. I know this because I called after 12 oclock p.m. on the 13th of April A.D. 1887 and saw the corpse of said Rawlins. Immediate cause of his death was the result of contusion and laceration of the brain. Respectfully, J.P. Scoles Treas. of Board of Exam Surg. Columbus, Kansas.

I need any kind of record after the 1880 Missouri census record. I found Sarah's burial record in Bartlesville Oklahoma, but have been unsuccessful in locating any record of Mary's marriage, the birth of her son, Albert, or a death record for either Mary, her husband, or her father Llewellyn. Carrie Gollhor was b Jan 17, 1876, and died Nov 19, 1899 in Scammon, Cherokee Co. KS. She married John Bath Dec 1 1895 in Cherokee Co. KS. They had two sons, Thomas William and Carl. Carrie died Nov 19, 1899 in Scammon. Does anyone have any information on this family? Thanks.

I am searching for information on GEORGE A. BROWN who was listed on the 1900 Montgomery Co.Kansas, Cherryvale, census. His birth date was April 1, 1853, born in Illinois. I cannot locate him after the 1900 census. Two sons & a daughter lived for many years in Cherokee Co.,KS. One is still alive but knows nothing about our Great-Grandfather, George A. Brown. He and wife, Martha were supposed to have gotten a divorce about 1903. He supposedly never remarried. Can anyone help me. I do not belong to Ancestry as they do not recognize my webtv system. Webtv is very limiting as far as access because of small memory. Would really appreciate any help. JoAn

I am looking for information about Allen J. Chittenden of Galena, Kansas b Kentucky. He is my gg grandfather and i need to find out about him and who his parents were. His son James William Chittenden was born 11-29-1870, Indiana. James was killed in Girard in a mine accident 12-2-1898. The Webb City Register says he was the son of A. J. Chittenden of Galena, had a family there and was the son of A. J. well known for many years. I beleive A. J. Chittenden married Hannah Brooks. James Married Tobitha Ann Peckenpaugh of Illinois 11-29-1870. Looking for any information on James Franklin Wright, my grandfather. Born 1894 and died 1919 in Coal mine accident at the Carbon Coal Company two mile south of Scammon.
Have pictures of his gravestone which reads: James F. Wright born 1984, died 1919. Gail G. his wife 1898. It's in the Park Cemetery at Country Road and Highway 69 in Columbus, Kansas
Also have his school attendance records and one report card for the years 1904-1907 This is the strange thing -- his name was JAMES ALLEN and the cards were signed "L. ALLEN."
His only son (my father) is still living at age 86. He is unable or unwilling to give information on his father.

I am looking for information on my GGgrandfather and family.
He was a bishop with the Mennonites.
Benjamin F. Hamilton was born in Pottsville, Pa., July, 4, 1825, and died May 10, 1898. He grew to manhood in Allentown, Pa. and in 1843 went to Medina Co., Ohio. Dec. 30, 1845 he married Elizabeth Nahrgang.
He resided in Williams Co., Ohio, till 1865, when on account of his wife's failing health he moved to Owen Co., Ind. where she died in 1866.
To this union there were born five sons. Samuel, Benjamin Jr.,Joseph, David and Unknown.
In 1866 he married Catherine Holley. To this union
there were born six sons and three daughters. Mary Ann, William A.,Elijah (Eli), John Henry, Charles Ed.,Louisa Margaret, Nathaniel Ira, Susan Elizabeth, and Edwin Arthur.
In 1869 he moved to Livingston Co., Ill. where he served the church until 1883, when he moved to Cherokee Co., Kansas; from there he came to Marion Co. where he lived until his death. He also lived in Harper Co. where some of the family remain.

My 1870 cherokee county, KS census record is hard to read. My Belden family was living in Baxter Springs township Ward 1 on the 1870 census. I can make out Phobe,Charley and Annie as children and know that is my line but I can not read the Dad's name. Mother was dead at that time. John C. Fowler, may have be a brother to our Elizabeth C. Fowler, who married Thomas Jefferson Weidner. Married Morgan Co. Ind. Sept. 1844. Another sister, Charlotte S. Fowler, married Samuel Fletcher, 1840, Morgan Co. Ind. Another Sister, Minerva married Ralph Simpson, 1849, Morgan Co. Ind.These families, Thomas and Elizabeth C. Fowler Weidner, and Charlotte S. Fowler Fletcher, lived in Sidney, Iowa, and other places. Elizabeth died 1851, Iowa, result of childbirth of our ancestor, John William Weidner, born June 24, 1851. Charlotte S. Fowler Fletcher, died 1862, in or near Sidney, Iowa. Freemont Co.
Elizabeth and Charlotte Fowler, were daughters of John and Mary "Polly" ? Fowler, who were landowners in Morgan Co. Ind.
