Topic: Vanderlinden
From: Lynda Stark lstar@shaw.ca
Date: Monday, November 08, 2004 10:11 PM
I am searching for information regarding Lewis Vanderlinden who spent most of his adult years in SE Kansas. One census lists him as A or AL Vanderlinden but all others list him as Lewis or Louis. His youngest daughter, Maybell, says he told her he was from "High Holland" near the Belgium border.
His first wife was named Ann and they had three children. Thomas, William and Mary [called Mollie]. Ann died and later he married Martha Ellen Watson. Their child together was Maybell. They divorced. Lewis worked in the mines in SE Kansas. He operated a "lift" to move the minors up and down is my understanding.
I am searching for info regarding first wife Ann. What was her maiden name. Where born. Where married. Where were the children born?
Who were Lewis' parents and siblings? Could his name have been modified from Lucas? Where was he born? When did he immigrate to the US?
If you have any answers to this limb of the Vanderlinden tree to share, I would certainly appreciate it.
Thank you. Lynda

Topic: Whites in Cherokee county
From: Teresa Brazil tlbraz@yahoo.com
Date: Friday, October 08, 2004 11:15 PM
I am searching for White ancestors from Cherokee county in late 1800's to 1920's. My great grandfather & wife - James White and Esther Gowdy White (their first names may be incorrect). James was a coal mine storekeeper in Radley? KS. Children: Sheldon White, Bertha White Kennedy, Clifford White, Ruth White Sadler, Bradford L. White, and Olive Lorraine White Welch (my paternal grandmother).
Need any info on death dates, burial, etc. James remarried after Esther died (sometime after September 3,1900)to an Ida Davis? who had two daughters: one was Mattie Opal, who later married Sheldon White and lived around Chanute, KS area rest of their lives.

Topic: Hansel W. HOUSE b. ca 1807 TN 1870 Cherokee Co
From: Harlene Brown jrbrown@pacifier.com
Date: Sunday, October 03, 2004 12:11 AM
I just discovered my illusive 3rd-Great-Grandfather Hansel W. HOUSE in the 1870 Lostine P. O. (?) not sure if Lostine is correct) Sheridan Twp., Cherokee Co. KS Census.
Ancestry Image #15; Stamped Pg. #134; Household #109; Family #108
HOUSE, Hansel W. 63 Male White Farmer $2000 $1000 Tennessee Male Citizen over 21; House, Catherine 58 F W Keeping House Georgia; House, Wm B. M W 18 Farming IL; HANKENS, Martha 13 IL; PARLIER, Francis C. 21 M W Farming IL
Hansel was in Washington Co. IL from at least 1837 through 1862 when his 1st wife, Patsy C. Carter House died. He married Mrs. Catherine Parlier in 1864 (Illinois). They were in Kansas in time for the 1870 Census.
Family legend said Hansel died in 1880 in Fresno, California. We have no proof of that. We also hadn't known he had been married a 2nd time until this last year.
He was a farmer/preacher....Methodist, I believe.
Any info or clues on this family would be so greatly appreciated. I feel like I've broken through one of my biggest brick walls by finding them in Cherokee County, but as you all know...one answered question brings many more unanswered ones.
Thanks so much!
Happily,
Harlene

Topic: YOUNGS--CHEROKEE blood?
From: Joy LITTLE jjklittle@earthlink.net
Date: Saturday, August 28, 2004 05:58 PM
Does anyone have proof that the YOUNGS who migrated from KY
>IA > IL > NE > MO > KS > OK > AR were Cherokee Indians?
Do you have knowledge about any YOUNGS that moved to
Skiatook, Osage/Tulsa Co. OK in 1920's.
My grandmother Cora May YOUNG Kirk (widow) took her 9
children and moved to Skiatook, OK in 1920 to be near a
relative. Later married Gene WARNER in 1924 and later
moved to Springfield, MO where they lived until 1946. She
then moved to Altus, OK to live with her son James Franklin
Kirk (my dad) and his family.
Would love to make contact with her family members for
genealogical purposes and then, too, to know family
descendants.
