John Arthur Volkman.

At 10 o'clock Saturday night, June 5th, Arthur Volkman, a well known young man of the county, died at his family residence in Irwin township ten miles west of this city. He had been ill about five weeks. He was
first taken with intermittent fever and later with hemorrhage of the bowels and a reaction set in with typhoid fever, which resulted in death.

The deceased was the only son of C. H. and Mary Volkman. He was born in Nappanee, Elkhart county, Indiana, November 16, 1879, and was aged 18 years and 7 months at the time of his death. The deceased had been a resident of this county for about fourteen years, most of the time residing with his parents in Irwin township.

Arthur Volkman was a young man of good, steady habits, quiet disposition and industrious to a marked degree and was generally found at home assisting his father with farm work. His death is a sad blow to his
parents, who have been subjected to much ill luck and misfortune during their sojourn in this country.

The funeral took place from the M. E. church in this city Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Rev. C. M. Gray and Rev. A. M. Buchanan assisting with the services at the church and gave consolation to the family. A number of people turned out in the city as well as from the
neighborhood of the deceased to pay their last respects to the young man. The remains were buried in the city cemetery.
