Obituary of RAYMOND PAUL HADLEY

LIEUT. R. P. HADLEY KILLED IN PLANE CRASH

Lieut. Raymond Paul Hadley, 23, former Wichita student and for the past four weeks an instructor at the army air base in Altus, Okla., was killed Monday afternoon, February 14, 1944, in an airplane crash near that base.

The body of Lieutenant Hadley, accompanied by a military escort, arrived in Wichita late Tuesday.

Lieutenant Hadley was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence N. Hadley of Valley Center, Kans. He was born there August 2, 1920. After graduating from Valley Center High School he came to Wichita where he attended Friends University and later, Wichita University.

He entered the service January 4, 1943 and in January of this year received his pilot's wings and commission.

Lieutenant Hadley was a member of the Methodist church in Valley Center and during his residence there was active in church work.

Surviving are his wife, Eva Mae, one daughter, Karen Rae, his parents, two sisters, Helen Hadley, Cortez, Colo., and Mrs. Melvin Turner, Valley Center, and one brother, Lawrence N., Jr., Ann Arbor, Mich.

Funeral services will be held in the Methodist church in Valley Center at 2 p.m., Friday.

Lieutenant Hadley was a grandson of James Hadley and a nephew of Gurney T. Hadley of Comanche County and had visited here many times. Mr. and Mrs. G. T. Hadley of Coldwater went to Valley Center on the 18th to attend the funeral services.
