Amelia ALBERTSON, 101 years of age, died Thursday, September 7, 2000, at Dawson Place Nursing Home in Hill City, Kansas. She was born March 15, 1899, in rural Graham County, Kansas, to John Peter and Katherine Margaret MICHAELIS, both of Volga German heritage.
She attended elementary school at Spring Lake Rural School, near her home. She attended and graduated from Hill City High School in 1919. This was followed by completion of Normal Training for Teachers at Fort Hays in the summer of 1919.
She immediately began her teaching career at Millbrook School, where she taught for 3 years. She also taught for 2 years at Sunrise School, and was called upon to teach 2 years at Glendale School during World War II. Amelia married Henry C. ALBERTSON on April 16, 1921. They had celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary, as well as their sixtieth anniversary. He died on October 17, 1983.
She was a member of the Hill City United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, the UMW Quilting Group, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Research Club, and was a former member of E.H.U.Amelia had many interests, among which were her love of reading, cooking, baking cookies, making watermelon pickles and choke cherry jelly, baking homemade bread and rolls, and most of all, enjoying all the time possible with any or all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include a son, Curtis, of Tucson, Arizona, his wife, Janet, and their children: Bruce and his wife, Terry; Laura and her husband Mike, and their children, Casey, Mitchell and Mica; and Brent and his wife, Margaret, and their son, Brian; and a daughter, Carol TREXLER of Hill City, Kansas, and her husband, Allen, and their children, Brad and his wife, Kim, and their daughters, Meredith and Brittney; and Lynn BRUTON of Norton and her husband, Ty, and their children Gabriel and Keali.
The funeral service was held on Wednesday, September 13, 2000, at the Spencer Chapel in Hill City, Kansas. Internment was at Prairie Home Cemetery, rural Graham County, Kansas.
