Hazel Belle KARNS, 97, passed away Wednesday, August 23, 2000, at Dawson Place Nursing Home in Hill City, Kansas. She was born on October 29, 1902 at Samouth, Illinois, the daughter of Lycurges and Florence (FINLEY) JONES.
A resident of this area since 1979, she was a retired bookkeeper and homemaker. She married Alfred R. "Barney" KARNS on July 31, 1921 in Ada, Kansas. He died on September 23, 1983.
Hazel was a member of the Ada Baptist Church, Ada, Kansas.

Survivors include a son, James L. KARNS of Plainville, Kansas; and two daughters, LaDonna HENSLEY of Hill City and Sherrill KARNS of Redding, California. Also surviving Mrs. Karns are a brother, Gladwyn JONES of Salina, Kansas; a sister, Gladys GASAWAY of Hill City; eight grandchildren; and eighteen great-grandchildren. Mrs. KARNS was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Roger Max KARNS; one brother; and one sister.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 26, 2000, at the Ada Baptist Church, Ada, Kansas, with Pastor Ron WALKER officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Ada, Kansas. Memorials were suggested to Dawson Place Nursing Home in Hill City; and arrangements were by Spencer Chapel of Hill City.
