Reubin LAWLIS was born in [Russell County] Kentucky, in [June 1] 1824,died in Graham County, April l8, 1912, at the age of 84 years, 10 months, 28 days. He leaves to mourn his death eleven children, nine daughters and 2 sons whose names are as follows:Lydia EBERHARD and Sarah HUSSEY, of South Dakota, Martha LAYMAN, Matilda BROOKS and Malinda ROUSEY, of Oklahoma, Kate CLARK, of Hoxie, Agnes GAUTHIER, Minnie STIMETZ, J.T.[Tom] LAWLIS, of Hill City,John LAWLIS, of Holdridge, Nebraska. Luvena TUCK, of St Joe, Missouri. One son [Eli J. LAWLIS] and one daughter being dead. Total living descendants,130, 21 dead. There are two great great grandchildren. Deceased came to Graham County in the spring [April] of 1879.

The publishers of this paper have known intimately the deceased for thirty-three years, having located in Graham County at the same time with him, being neighbors three miles apart.

While the community life here has lost a true friend it is left better by the deceased having left a noble life for emulation and while he is dead in the body his body will ever bear witness with our Spirit unto the glory of God and all who knew the deaceased. The deceased was a member of the Christian Church, and the funeral services were conducted by Rev. EARLEY of the Hill City church., on Monday, April 29, 1912, taking as his theme, "A rugged character as made by Pioneer life and a Faith that God was ever a partner with him in every transaction." A most fitting tribute indeed. A large number of relatives and friends were at the funeral services.
