The Hill City Republican -- September 21, 1916
A. J. LOVELADY was born in St. Louis, Missouri, February 20, 1841, and died September 10, 1916, aged 75 years, six months, 18 days at his home in Penokee. In early life he moved to Iowa. During the Civil War he spent three years in service to his country. He was wounded at Gunston, Mississippi, in 1865 near the close of the war. He came to Kansas 35 years ago. He married Frances CHAPMAN in 1866. They had five children: Mrs. Grace CLEM, Los Angeles; Mrs. Josephine LOTRIDGE, San Francisco, Calif.; George LOVELADY, Penokee, Kansas; Mrs. Ada MARRENGER, Seattle, Wash.; Mrs. Myrtle WEYAND, Phoenix, Ariz. His wife, son, George and daughter, Nyrtle [sic!], wer at his bedside at the hour of his death.
