George Irvin SAYERS, 98, passed away on Thursday, September 7, 2000, at the Graham County Hospital in Hill City, Kansas. A retired farmer-stockman, he was a longtime resident of Graham County. Mr. SAYERS was born on August 5, 1902 in Nicodemus, Kansas. He was a son of George Monroe and Mary Eliza (BATES) SAYERS. His first wife was Wilma WATSON, and she passed away in 1951. He married Bernice JONES in 1952, and she passed away in 1978. George then married Minerva WELLINGTON in 1979, and she survives. He was a member of the First Missionary Baptist Church in Nicodemus, Kansas. He was a member of the church choir and also a deacon of the church. George was a member of the Masonic Lodge. Survivors include his wife, Minerva SAYERS of Stockton, Kansas; a son, Clarence SAYERS, Nicodemus, Kansas; a daughter, Maxine PAYTON of Los Angeles, California; nine step-children; seven grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives; five brothers; one sister; and one grandchild. Funeral services will be held September 16, 2000 at the First Missionary Baptist Church in Nicodemus, Kansas. Officiating will be Rev. I.G. CRAWFORD. Burial will be in the Nicodemus Cemetery. Memorials were suggested to the First Missionary Baptist church, Nicodemus, Kansas.
