Leavenworth County, KSGenWeb Project

Welcome!

1My name is Pauli Driver Smith and I am the county coordinator for the Leavenworth County, KSGenWeb Project pages. I'm really excited to be to be a part of the KSGenWeb Project, and am working hard to develop my site into a comprehensive place where we can all share our Leavenworth County, Kansas genealogy, history, and personal histories. I can't do this without you! If you are willing to transcribe records or have family records you would like to submit, please contact me.

In the Beginning

2 Leavenworth County was formed on August 25, 1855 from free territory and is among the first 33 counties in Kansas formed by the first territorial government. It is named, as is its county seat, after Henry Leavenworth, an officer in the War of 1812.

Adjacent counties are: Platte, Missouri (north), Wyandotte (east), Johnson (southeast), Douglas (southwest), Jefferson (west), and Atchison (northwest).

What's New!

3 I will try to keep this page up to date so I can let you know what new goodies I've added. No promises, sometimes I just get into the "zone" and just start adding stuff. By the time I'm finished, I have no idea where all of it is. <smile>

To see the latest items that I have remembered to add to my "What's New" page, please go here.

If you have something that you would like to contribute to this site, please contact me. The more we have to share, the bigger the chance that someone's brick wall is demolished.

Social Media

4We now have a Facebook Group! This is an extension of this site and subject to KSGenWeb and USGenWeb rules and guidelines. You do need to be on Facebook to access it. The group is closed, meaning that you have to be approved to join it as well as read and post.

My hope is that this will be a place where we can share information and materials, ask questions, and get to know other Leavenworth County researchers. You can find our Facebook group here.
