The Stockton Record says that two girls aged 14 and 18 years are farming 145 acres of corn near that place. Their father was about to hire a man to plant and cultivate the crop, but the girls objected, and offered to do the work themselves. A bargain was soon struck on the basis that the girls shoul dhave one-ffith the crop to use in any way they saw fit. One hundred acres of the corn has been planted and is so far advanced that it has been cultivated once, and they are planting the other 45 acres. Such girls are a treasure to their parents which the old folks may find it hard to keep. But the editor of the Record very thoughtfully refrained from giving their names, although their father’s name is given. All correspondence will have to pass through his hands.
