Obviously, they were somewhere in Marion County, as Joseph served a few years as County Treasurer. ---------------------------------- SILKY Cindy (cbmail1@email.toast.net) 10 June 2003 My Great-Great-Uncle, David SILKY is listed as being born in Hillsboro, Kansas. We have a birthdate of July 1886, but it could be from as early as 1884 as well. All of the rest of the family was born in Michigan, but this one child was listed as born in Kansas. The surname is SILKY, but is also spelled as CIELKE or SILKEY. CIELKE was the spelling given on the marriage certificate of August and Minnie (UNRUH), but it was changed at some point to SILKY. Word of mouth history passed down said that Wilhemina had a brother that was Mennonite. I haven't been able to make a connection to Kansas so far, but I do think that it is there, just a matter of finding it. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where to look or can connect me with a volunteer who could do a lookup of the information on a birth certificate. ---------------------------------- WINTER...FRIESEN Mary Smith (redhd4str8@aol.com) 19 May 2003 I am trying to locate any information on the following family from Marion County, Kansas. I do not know if Malinda died in Marion County, but am trying any lead I can think of to further my research. Peter CHRISTNER was my Great-Grandfather. Can anyone in the local area do lookups? ---------------------------------- MEIER...BAKER...EHRLICH John Baker (okiepinokie@yahoo.com) 11 April 2003 My Grandfather, Conrad MEIER had two brothers, Henry and Gottfried. I am needing a photo taken of John B. BUSSARD's headstone. According to records, his headstone reads born 4-25-1837, all my other records read 1836, no birth certificate available, no baptismal. She was born 7 December 1882 in Peabody, Kansas. Her death certificate lists parents as Jabez SWARTHOUT and Louise WYMAN. Any information on this family would be greatly appreciated. ---------------------------------- HAFFNER...MEIER Mary Smith (redhd4str8@aol.com) 21 March 2003 I am trying to locate a Great Aunt. Her name is Katherine Margaret HAFFNER. Her dad was Gottfried HAFFNER, her mom Katherine Elisabeth (WINTER) HAFFNER. They immigrated into Lehigh, Marion County, Kansas from Tscherbakovka, Russia in the mid 1800's. Katherine Margaret was the oldest child. In the Marion county census in 1880 she is listed as being 19, single and living with her parents. She was born August 4, 1861 in Tscherbakovka, Russia. During the Oklahoma land run her family left for Omega, Oklahoma. From here we have lost her, until 1924, her dad died in Omega, Oklahoma and in his Will she is listed as a surviving daughter with a current address of Lehigh, Kansas. She is also listed as Katherine Margaret (HAFFNER) MEIER. We were fortunate enough to locate an old family photo from her brother's Grand-daughter, it says "Andrew A. MEIER and Katherine Margaret (HAFFNER) MEIER". I have contacted the Marion County Clerk's office and they went through their cemetery database and this couple does not appear to exist in any cemetery in Marion county. I am looking for anyone that may also be looking for an Andrew MAIER, MEIER or MEYER. What happened to them?! Where could they be in Kansas? In the obituary for her dad and her mom, the amount of surviving Grandchildren are accounted for by her brother's children. So they either had no children, or may have and the children had passed away before 1924. Are there any old German cemeteries unaccounted for in or around the Lehigh area? Her dad and mom were Seventh Day Adventists, are there any old SDA cemeteries around Lehigh? Any information or ideas appreciated. Someone was kind enough to send me the following family from an old Agricultural census and this could be them. Any ideas what happened to this family? They were early homesteaders in Marion County (Lost Springs), McPherson County and Greenwood County. Recently, my Aunt sent me two old postcards from 1908 that picture a monument at Lost Springs. One side of the monument says "Lost Springs Station on the Santa Fe Trail, operated 1822-1872." The other side says "Marked by the old settlers of Marion County, July 4, 1908, Names of contributors in receptacle." There are 8 men in each picture (and a boy peeking from the brush in one!).
