Miami County
Resources and Lookup Volunteers

To request a lookup please follow these simple guidelines:

  1. Put Miami County Lookup in subject line. Please do not use upper case letters. This will insure that your request is not overlooked.

  2. If there is an online index available, please check the index before making your request.

  3. Put the name of the book or source on the first line of your message, followed by the name you are looking for. Be sure to include the page number(s) and, if applicable, the volume number with your request.

  4. Request only one surname from one book or source per request. Be specific - include first name, surname, dates, locations whenever you know them.

  5. Do not send broad general requests such as: "I have Jones relatives who lived somewhere in Kansas, can you find them?" or "Send me everything on the Smith family for this county."

  6. Where indexes are available, check the index before you make your request.

  7. No photocopies will be made. Many of the source materials are subject to copyright restrictions. You can get the publications or photocopies through interlibrary loan or by making a request to the Miami County Genealogy and Historical Society.

  8. Please do not write your request in all upper case letters. It makes it too hard to read.

Failure to follow these simple guidelines could result in your request being overlooked or ignored.
