My dads family originated from the Miami County area. The surname is Mount. My Great Uncle Ralph Mount lived in Bucyrus, Kansas. My dad was born in Spring Hill, Kansas. His mother (my Gramdmother) was Emily Stahl. My dad Remembers riding the train from Texas in the late 30's - early 40's with his Grandmother Dora Stahl to Waverly, Kansas and visiting her family. Dora Stahl was married to Clarence Stahl. He had a twin brother whose name (I think) was Albert Stahl.
I'm very interesed in knowing more about my paternal grandmother's family. My grandmother was married to Harry Lyon Mount of Kansas.
On page 79, in a story about the Morris F. and Patricia SCHROEDER family, it says, "... The farm where they reside has been in the Schroeder family for many years. It was purchased by Morris' great-grandfather, Morris Ammon SCHROEDER, who came to Miami County at the age of 22. He was born in Reading, Pennsylvania, December 25, 1856. ... After his marriage to Ellen STAHL of Spring Hill on September 14, 1880, he began his long career in the lumber business in Paola working in the West and Bigelow lumberyard. In a few years he owned his own yard. In 1906 he sold out to the Paola Lumber and Coal Company, but five years later got back into the business when he formed the Schroeder Lumber Company. In later years, he turned the business over to his son, Frank Benton Schroeder. ... He died December 16, 1926 ... buried in Paola Cemetery. submitted by Patricia Peuser Schroeder"
On page 351-352, in a story about the Joseph Herman and Alice JUDD STAHL family, it says, "Joe STAHL was born March 28, 1911 on the STAHL homestead in Wea Township to Peter and Mollie HIRT STAHL. In 1938, on October 5, he married Alice JUDD, the daughter of George and Mary Dempsey JUDD. The were married in the Catholic Church, St. Phillip's, in Osawatomie. The made their home in the farm house built by his grandmother, Katherine STAHL, at Wea. ... fourth generation to live in the house. ... children of Joe and Alice are: George Herman; Deloris Marie; Bessie Louise; Margaret Ann; Robert Joseph; Leonard Phillip; Mary Elizabeth; James Leroy; John Raymond; Victoria Lynn and Jeanette Marie. ... Joe and Alice have 35 grandchildren and two great-grandaughters and present [1986] ... submitted by Bessie Stevens"
On page 352, in a story about the Peter and Catherine STAHL family, it says, "Catherine SCHWARTZ STAHL was born September 16, 1834, in Oberselters, Germany, the daughter of Jacob and Dorathea (MILLER) SCHWARTZ. Jacob and Dorathea had seven children: Jacob, William, Dora, Helena, Elizabeth and Mary Catherine.... settled in the small village of Wea. The father, Jacob, came also, after the death of his wife, Dorathea. In May, 1854, Catherine married Peter Michlin STAHL in the Catholic Church at Oberselters. To this union seven children were born: Catherine, Anna, Dorothea, Elizabeth and Peter Jacob. Two infant daughters died at birth. Peter M. was the son of Johann and Dorothy (MILLER) STAHL. ... Peter died April 24, 1865, just nine days before the birth of his only son, Peter Jacob. ... Catherine sailed for the land that her brothers had settled in America. In August, 1869, she purchased 120 acres one and one-half miles west of the Wea Church. She .. never remarried. ... In 1880, Catherine adopted a three year old son, George Rolando STAHL... On page 352, in a story about the Peter and Mollie STAHL family, it says, "Peter Joseph STAHL was born in Oberselters, Germany and came with his mother Katherine SCHWARTZ STAHL to Wea. He was united in marriage at Wea to Mollie HIRT from Parkersville, Kansas in 1891. They had seven children. Only four survived to adulthood: Mary, Albert, Henry and Joseph ... Peter died in 1925; his widow ... [died] in 1925. ... submitted by Bessie Stevens"
On page 384, in a story about the Calvin Daniel WEAVER family, it says, "Calvin (Cal) Daniel WEAVER, son of Martin S. WEAVER, was born October 14, 1879, and died October 4, 1969. He was married February 12, 1913, to June MOUNT, born June 8, 1883, who died October 3, 1949. She was the daughter of Charles MOUNT. ... both are buried in Paola City Cemetery. ... no children ... submitted by Gladys Barkis Walters"
On page 399-400, in a story about the Landon Eugene and Dorothy WINKLER family, it says, "Eugene ... liked all kinds of sports. He and his two brothers, Ralph and Woodrow, went pheasant hunting in Phillips County for 30 years and along with Ralph MOUNT went to Minnesota fishing for many years ... submitted by Dorothy Winkler Arzberger"

On page 263-264, in a story about the George David and Catherine Quick (DOLLIVER) SCHOMP family, it says, "George David SCHOMP, sixth generation of the SCHOMP family in America, was born February 5, 1836, in Three Bridges, New Jersey. ... the son of David Peter and Esther (LOW) SCHOMP. George married Catherine "Kate" Quick DOLLIVER on November 18, 1858, in Three Bridges, New Jersey. Catherine was born January 13, 1835, in Summerville, New Jersey, the daughter of Victor Monroe and Catherine Jane (QUICK) DOLLIVER. ... [George died] in New Market, New Jersey, February 22, 1911. After George's death, Catherine lived with her three youngest children and died while at the home of Karl and Eva (SCHOMP) MOUNT in Miami County on May 10, 1927. Both George and Catherine are buried at the Wagstaff Cemetery in Miami County. There children were as follows: ... [8th] Eva SCHOMP, born September 6, 1878, at Centerville, Hunterdon, New Jersey, was married December 28, 1900, at Chiles, Kansas, to Carl MOUNT. They lived near Chiles and Wagstaff and had four boys. After the death of Carl, Eva lived with her oldest son, Ralph MOUNT, at Bucyrus, Kansas. She died June 12, 1956. On page 276, in a story about the Henry Joseph and Eleanor M (NIEMEYER) STAHL family, it says, "Henry Joseph STAHL and Eleanor M. NIEMEYER were united in marriage during October of 1933 at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Wea, Kansas. ... four children ... Eleanor was born at Bowling Green, Missouri on April 23, 1913. Her parents were Anna FONKE) and Henry NIEMEYER. She had five brothers ... Eleanor passed away March 31, 1975. Henry was born at Bucyrus, Kansas, January 19, 1905 ... he had two brothers, Albert and Joseph, and a sister, Mary. His parents were Molly and Peter STAHL. Henry passed away January 25, 1981. On page 277, there is a story entitled "Childhood Memories, Henry J. Stahl Family" submitted by Betty Ann La Galle, and a picture of the family in 1958.
On page 79, in a Roster of Battery Unit which leaves for Camp January 3, it says: "Here are the names and rank of officers and enlisted men in Battery F: ... Privates: ... (?)George A. Trobough ... submitted by Anthony G. Reiter". The (?) means Status and address unknown.

The following is from Family Histories and Stories of Miami County, Kansas Vol. I, p 258, in a story about the William Anderson McCULLOUGH family, it says, "William Anderson McCULLOUGH was born at the old farm house at North Salem, Ohio, on January 8, 1857 of Scotch-Irish ancestry. ... He was married to Mary Wycoff MOLESWORTH (born June 24, 1856) on March 13, 1878 by the Reverand Martin at North Salem. ... came to Paola, Kansas in 1903 where he worked in the oil and gas fields. Most of the early drilling in Miami County was done by Mr. McCULLOUGH and his sons. Mr. McCULLOUGH also drilled the first artesian well in Roswell, New Mexico. The McCULLOUGHs had eleven children named Ollie, Clara, Edwin, Ellis, Harvey, David, William, Clyde, Anna, Harry and Jeanette. ... celebrated sixty years of marriage in 1938 at their home, 410 North Silver, Paola, Kansas. W.A. passed away April 5, 1938 and Mary's death was February 4, 1943. Submitted by Dorothy Messer"
On page 129, in a story about the Joseph P. and Winifried CLARK family, it says, "Joseph P. CLARK, one of ten children born to Edna KEENAN CLARK and George P. CLARK, was born January 12, 1916 in Miami County. His grandparents were Effie MILLER and Peter J. KEENAN, and Thomas and Sarah O'CONNER CLARK. ... submitted by Winifried Stockwell Clark"
On page 164-165, in a lengthy story titled Family History of Adam and Caroline MILLER, in the part about their descendants, in a paragraph talking about their children it says, "... Effie was the oldest, born on June 18, 1862. She later married Peter J. KEENAN in Wea on May 17, 1881. Effie died February 18, 1949, in Paola, Kansas. ... submitted by Michael C. Clark, grandson of George Patrick Clark and Edna Keenan-Clark"
On page 165, there is a photo of the children of Adam and Caroline - Effie is named in the caption.
On page 165-167, in a lengthy story titled Family History of Patrick and Elizabeth CLARK, in the part about their descendants, in a paragraph talking about their children it says, "... George Patrick CLARK married Edna E. KEENAN in 1905 in Paola, Kansas. Edna was the daughter of Effie A. MILLER and Peter J. KEENAN and the granddaughter of Caroline FINCH/Adam MILLER and Maracella O'BRIEN/John KEENAN ... submitted by Michael C. Clark, son of Paul T. Clark and Lois M. Fenoughty-Clark" NOTE: The spelling of Maracella is different than other references to her where the spelling is consistently Marcella.
On page 167-168, in a lengthy story titled The Family of John and Marcella KEENAN, in the part about their descendants, it says, "John KEENAN was born in Ireland in approximately 1820. Marcella O'BRIEN was born in Wexford, Ireland on October 31, 1830 according to her obituary. Her death certificate ... gives 'BRYAN' as her father's name and 'CONNOR' as her mother's maiden name. They were married in Ireland in 1854 ... soon thereafter set sail for America ... landed in New York ... moved to Dublin, Illinois. Thier first son, Thomas C. KEENAN was born on October 22 ... tombstone says 1855 ... death certificate says 1854. ... 1900 Census shows Marcella had seven children, three of which were living. She had one child from her second marriage named Alice who died May 6, 1870 at 3 years of age ...John KEENAN died September 10, 1860. ... Thomas married Anna Mae SPRING in 1898. They had two children. ... Peter J. KEENAN married Effie A. MILLER on May 17, 1881, in Wea, Kansas. Effie was the daughter of Adam MILLER and Caroline FINCH. The first child Edna E., was born April 2, 1882. Peter J. KEENAN died on December 15, 1930 and is buried at Holy Cross Cemetery. Effie A. On page 220, in a story about the John and Marcella KEENAN family, it says, "Marcella (O'BRIEN) (KEENAN) CLARK, born October 31, 1830, deceased October 12, 1913, was born in Wexford, Ireland, married John KEENAN in 1854 ... came to America ... settled in Freeport, Illinois. Three sons were born to this union: Tom, born 1854, Joe, born 1858 and Peter, born 1859. John KEENAN was killed in a threshing accident in Illinois, 1862. ... submitted by Barbara Plummer"
From 1878 Miami County, Kansas, Residents and Taxpayers index, in the Marysville Township (contains Hillsdale) listing: DAVIS, Spencer (age 35), and M (age 27 -assumed to be Spencer's wife), MA5-16-23. Their property reported in the atlas is either 20 or 30 acres, located 4.5 miles East of the Franklin County line, and 2 miles South of the Johnson County line.
The following is from Family Histories and Stories of Miami County, Kansas Vol. I, p 164, in a lengthy story titled The Family of Anthony and Catherine FENOUGHTY, in the part about their descendants, it says, "Anthony FENOUGHTY was born in Ireland in 1804. His wife, Catherine McANDREWS (McANDRESS?) was born in Ireland in 1799. ... Michael FENOUGHTY [the 3rd son] was born in County Mayo, Ireland on January 25, 1838, according to his death certificate and his obituary in the 'Western Spirit'. Michael died February 6, 1924 in Paola ... His wife Cecelia had died earlier on May 27, 1916 and was also buried at Holy Cross Cemetery ... Michael's oldest son, John, was born in Jennings County in 1867 and married Anna PICKLES in 1899. They had three children.

The following is from Family Histories and Stories of Miami County, Kansas Vol. II, p 289, in a story about the Jacob and Sarah Jane (JACKSON) VANDERSLICE family, in the part about their children, it says, " ... Debra Susan, born December 29, 1839, Hamilton County, Indiana, married (1) Micager GOINS July 31, 1859, at Paola, Miami County, Kansas, (2) James Tobias CLINE after her first husband Micager COINS was killed in the war, (3) Wm. HURST November 25, 1879, died September 17, 1887, and is buried in Indianapolis Cemetery, Miami County, Kansas... submitted by Dora Mae Turner"
Debra is the 8th of 13 children in this family. There are two different spellings of Micager's last name in the book -- GOINS and COINS.
