THE LARNED EAGLE-OPTIC, 3 November 1899
Obituary of LOUIS VAUGHN
Death of Louis Vaughn

Louis Vaughn, colored, died at his home a short distance west of town, Thursday night, of congestion of the bowels. He was sick only three or four days. The funeral occurred Saturday, and the body was buried in the Larned cemetery.

We do not know how long Louis Vaughn had been a resident of Pawnee county, but we had known him personally for some eighteen or nineteen years. He was a quiet, honest, reliable man, and a good industrious citizen. He was polite and respectful upon all occasions, and made friends of all those with whom he became acquainted. His life was an example of honesty and industry that might well be emulated by others. His death is a grievous loss to his family, and to the community. In saying this we pay him a simple tribute that is justly his due.
